Sustainability, which can be associated with the reduction of environmental impacts in design, production, and operation, and maintaining energy efficiency, has held increasingly significant importance in the maritime industry recently. This significance not only affects commercial cargo transportation but also brings forth numerous innovations in yacht design and production processes. In this study, a methodology covering hull form design and optimization, material and method selection, and hybrid propulsion system pertaining to the design process of a sustainable and energy-efficient yacht has been developed. The devised design methodology has been applied to a type of sailing yacht known as Bodrum Gulet in a case study. The obtained concept design offers numerous advantages in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability compared with existing versions, including lower main engine power requirements due to reduced resistance, enhanced utilization of wind, currents, and solar energy, implementation of innovative propulsion systems, and an innovative design identity. According to preliminary design and analysis results, the total resistance of the concept design equipped with integrated hybrid propulsion systems consisting of solar panels and underwater turbines is approximately 15% lower compared to existing Bodrum Gulets, with CO2 and NOX emission reductions of at least 25% and 70%, respectively.

摘要
