Multidisciplinary Working in Consultancy: The Delicate Balance of Expertise, Confidence, and Humility
摘要
There is an art to consultancy that goes beyond academic training courses. Psychologists and behavioural scientists have a range of sought-after skills including evidence-based practice, applying theoretical frameworks, developing interventions, and evaluating outcomes. However, other skills are also needed as psychologists often only hold part of the solution. How we work with others is as important as the knowledge and skills we bring to any piece of consultancy. This chapter underscores the importance of navigating the unique nuances, culture, politics, and relationships inherent in each consultancy project. For a consultant to be successful, they will need to expertly navigate these waters, building trust with clients and professionals from various disciplines. Recognising and valuing the skills of others prevents a restrictive approach that could lead to client disengagement and project failure. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, consultants can enhance their knowledge and skills while delivering positive outcomes for their clients. This chapter provides insights into the art of consultancy, advocating for a collaborative and inclusive approach to achieve successful consultancy outcomes.
