The changing consumer preferences for safer and healthy food has led to the innovations in the packaging industry and cheese industry being the major market expanding exponentially among dairy products a lot of new packaging systems has been developed. Biodegradable packaging materials have replaced the polyethylene and polyamide based plastic packaging materials. Antimicrobial, smart and intelligent packaging systems are used for cheese packaging. This book chapter presents some of the novel and smart packaging systems pertaining to cheese like edible films, antimicrobial packaging, MAP and intelligent packaging systems focusing specifically on edible nano-coatings.
