Cellular and Behavioral Linkages to Cognitive Preservation
摘要
This chapter expands what is described in Chapters “ Art and Successful Aging: Françoise Gilot (1921–2023) ,” “ Dedication to Science and Successful Aging: Rita Levi-Montalcini (1909–2012) ,” “ Adversity and Successful Aging: Jerome Isaac Friedman (1930–Present) ,” and “ Science, Music and Successful Aging: Edmond Fischer (1920–2021) ” to further depict how engagement in creative activities is linked to cognitive preservation and emotional resilience in aging. Visual art enhances our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. Through interdisciplinary research and integration of art therapy, better support is evolving. Dedication and resiliency are psychological and behavioral factors that influence the landscape of neurodegeneration. A rationale discussed here and in other chapters is on how the brain rewires through purpose and dedication. We also examine “supercentenarians”—persons living past the age of 110—and what they have in common and what we can learn from these successfully aged individuals.
