Consociational peace agreements are used as the main tool in stopping the intrastate, ethno-national conflicts, establishing the peaceful and democratic societies, but they do not give enough attention to the future peaceful evolution and development of the societies they are applied onto. The Dayton Peace Agreement did not leave any space for movement or future negotiations about the shape of the state or the complexity of its institutions. In analyzing research results of the impact that the Dayton Peace Agreement has on the representation of women in public life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the conclusion drawn is that the focus on ethno-national narratives in the current political environment adds to the marginalisation of the issue of gender equality and hinders the development of serious strategies and policies aimed at addressing the real concerns related to the position of women in the country’s political and public arenas.
