Since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement (DPA), NATO’s expansion in the Western Balkans (WB) has been the subject of several discussions. This matter is subject to a wide spectrum of opinions, ranging from skepticism and critique to passionate support. This chapter examines some potential paths for Bosnia and Herzegovina (hereafter referred to as BiH or Bosnia) to become a member of NATO. Although Bosnia has made significant progress toward aligning with NATO’s military and political criteria, these efforts remain insufficient. As part of its analysis of Bosnia’s progress in the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP), this chapter examines Bosnia’s political dynamics, its military capabilities, and its regional situation. Further, this chapter discusses the internal challenges of BiH, such as political divisions and societal perceptions of NATO, as well as external factors, such as regional stability and geopolitical competition.

摘要
