Evaluating and Optimizing Ferry Port Performance for Enhanced Service and Economic Growth

Optimizing the performance of ferry ports plays an important role in supporting the economy, safety, efficiency, and regional development as a long-term investment that provides economic benefits to the community. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the port as an effort to improve performance in providing optimal services to passengers and vehicles in current and future conditions. A quantitative approach is developed in this research method. The analysis is applied referring to the performance evaluation, modal interaction matrix, trip segment analysis, analysis of the level of importance and service performance, analysis of facility needs, analysis of the planned number of future requests using the smallest quadrant method, analysis of the zoning system. The results of study stated that the current port performance reached a value of 58.86 (moderate category), modal interaction matrix of -133.3 (sufficient category), trip segment analysis pedestrians using motorbikes have longer travel times than cars and there are 11 quadrant I service attributes and 5 quadrant III attributes that need improvement so that efforts are made by providing descriptive recommendations, fulfilling facility and service needs, improving pedestrian facilities, arranging passenger counter areas and adjacent waiting rooms, providing information facilities and implementing a zoning system. The five-year facility fulfilment plan with a predicted number of 104,591 passengers and 14,891 mixed vehicles as required by the waiting room of 413 m2, canteen area of 62 m2, administration area of 62 m2, utility room of 134 m2, public space of 67 m2, ready-to-load parking lot of 1,285 m2 and drop-off parking lot of 481 m2. For that, the findings of this study can be implemented so that ferry ports can improve their operational performance by providing better services to users and supporting economic growth and regional development.
