This chapter illustrates the categories analyzed in Chapter 2 by focusing on the American case study through the prism of the riot that occurred at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The psychoanalytic framework is completed with two different approaches: the sociological one, which insists on the various and isolated social categories of the mass; the political one, which focuses on the violent small groups resulting from the informal network like “Qnon” or more consistent with “the Proud Boys” and “the Oath Keepers.” The more disorganized mass is framed by very well military organized small groups.
