Enhancing the Speaking Competence of Greek-speaking Learners in a Turkish Language Classroom in Cyprus
摘要
This study investigated the effectiveness of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in enhancing the speaking skills of Greek-speaking adults learning Turkish in Cyprus. Conducted over six months at the State Institute of Further Education, the research involved seven participants and employed an action research methodology. While the small sample size is a limitation of the study, this was mitigated by conducting the research over a six-month period, allowing for a deeper and more sustained observation of learners’ development. Data were collected through motivational questionnaires, rubric-based evaluations, and classroom observations. The findings revealed significant improvements in learners’ speaking competence and confidence, highlighting TBLT's potential to address challenges posed by limited exposure to the target language in foreign language contexts. This study contributes to understanding how TBLT can bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world language use, offering practical insights for teaching Turkish as a foreign language in Cyprus and not only.
