Using Short Films in Teaching Turkish L2 to Greek L1 Learners
摘要
The structure of the lesson, the activities, and the teaching tools play a crucial role in the motivation to learn and in the acquisition of a second language. To date, few studies have proposed and employed short films for teaching a second language or foreign language (L2/FL). Therefore, the use of short films can also be employed to teach Turkish as a second language (L2). There is a requirement to introduce new ideas and approaches that incorporate the use of audiovisual tools in teaching Turkish as an L2 to L1 Greek-speaking learners (L1). Hence, the purpose of this research was to test the use of short films in teaching Turkish as an L2 and to determine whether they are effective and entertaining for Greek L1 learners. Data were collected through the creation and implementation of two short film-based activity lessons and motivation questionnaires. Two lesson plans were developed for Greek L1 learners of A2-B1 level of Turkish L2. The research results reveal that the creation of short film-based activities had a positive impact and influence on students’ achievements, understanding of grammatical phenomena, and creative writing and thinking skills, while it was observed that the lessons had a positive impact on students’ motivation.
