International Service-Learning in Psychology: Sustaining Service-Learning Partnerships Between Nepal and the United States
摘要
This chapter describes a partnership for service-learning that was created between the NGO Empower Nepali Girls Organization based in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Northwestern State University Department of Clinical Psychology Graduate Program in Louisiana, United States. This partnership provides valuable opportunities for American students in clinical psychology and the host program to co-design, develop, and implement projects to meet the needs of both groups. Over the years, teams from the USA have traveled to Nepal for service-learning projects. Each project was developed collaboratively based on matching the shared needs and resources of both partner organizations. This chapter describes the process from the perspective of both the NGO and the University as reflected using different voices and pronouns in the various sections. The chapter highlights sustainability in relationships and includes student perspectives regarding the personal impact of participating in an international service-learning project in Nepal.
