An Interventional Approach to Reducing Tobacco Use Among Students of an Indian University
摘要
A common contributing factor to poor health is engagement with intoxicating substances. The most common, cheaply available, and accessible substance in Assam, India, is tobacco. Tobacco use threatens the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, good health and well-being. In Northeast India, many young people between the ages of 17 and 33 years are addicted to intoxicating substances. This chapter presents a service-learning program, which includes survey research about the patterns of tobacco usage among the students at Assam Don Bosco University and how the students and faculty raised awareness about tobacco use and its ill effects on health. Based on the survey, campaigns were created to increase awareness through online webinars and posters displayed in and around the campus.
