Learning is a multidimensional phenomenon: it is the close relationship between information processing and functioning of the system that enables the child to learn. Learning disabilities (LD) are specific neurological disorders that affect the brain’s ability to store, process, or communicate information. Early identification of learning problems may occur at any stage of learning and it is critical that intervention begins early. The objective of this project was to train community health workers and primary school teachers in Assam about different types of LD, how to identify them early, and to conduct preliminary screening and primary intervention strategies. The graduate students participated in delivering the orientation, in mobilizing the workers and teachers, and assisting in the workshops on intervention and referral.
