A Slotted Antenna for 2.45GHz Wearable Applications

A slots based antenna is presented for 2.45 GHZ WBAN applications in this work. The wearable antenna is designed by making some symmetrical shaped slots on the rectangular patch. A circular ring slot is made at the center and a U shaped slot is made at near the strip feed connection to the patch. The overall slots etched on the radiator imitate the antenna to be a butterfly shaped. The wearable antenna utilizes polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as substrate. The dielectric substrate is of thickness 1 mm and its dielectric constant is 2.7. A partial ground with a rectangular shape open slot is used at back side of the antenna and it’s fed by micro-strip method. The antenna simulation performance showed that, it operates at 2.45GHz with return loss of −38.45dB. A four layered human phantom model is used to simulate the antenna for on-body analysis. For on-body condition it operates at 2.45Hz with return loss of −13.57dB. For both off & on body conditions it operates at 2.45GHz.
