This chapter addresses the need for smart grids (SGs), key terminologies and advantages of SG technologies, converters, and maximum power point tracking methodologies available in SG, charging infrastructure, and artificial intelligence techniques. Customers may take an active role in energy management through demand response, which allows them to react to pricing signals and modify their energy use appropriately. Integration of electric cars with the infrastructure needed for charging them, enabling grid balancing and environmentally friendly mobility. Further, a case study was considered to show the methodology to perform energy management in a microgrid for an IEEE 33 bus system to assess the impact of load on the unit commitment status of generators, dispatch schedule, and operational cost of the microgrid.

摘要
