The article addresses the relationship between urban planning and city projects, pointing out that, in many cases, cities have urban planning without a city project or vice versa. However, the ideal is the coexistence of both elements: urban planning articulated to a defined city project. The text stresses that both the project and the planning must be specific to the particularities of each city since each one has different needs and realities that do not allow the application of uniform models or strategies. Through the analysis of examples in cities, mainly in Latin America, it is shown how, despite the similarities of the region, the context of each city determines different results. The proposal is to move towards an integration of urbanism, urban design and planning, understood as interdependent elements that respond to local demands, in order to plan and generate projects in accordance with the temporality and needs of each city.
