Hybrid Serious Game for Cancer Prevention Through the Promotion of Healthy Living Habits
摘要
Serious Games (SG) have been increasingly used as tools for health education and behavior change, particularly in promoting cancer prevention through a healthier lifestyle. However, existing SG often rely on a unidirectional, top-down educational approach that lacks participatory engagement and non-verbal social interaction. This study explores the development of a hybrid SG that integrates digital and physical components with participatory design strategies to enhance engagement, interaction, and information retention among younger audiences. Targeting Portuguese students aged 10–12 years, the project investigates: i) how a hybrid SG can foster healthy lifestyle behaviors for cancer prevention, ii) whether participatory design enhances engagement and responsibility toward cancer prevention, and iii) the most effective health communication model for a hybrid SG. The research follows a six-phase methodology, including literature review, interviews with experts, case studies, participatory design workshops, iterative prototyping, and evaluation. By combining digital and physical elements, this hybrid approach promotes social interaction and collaboration, addressing limitations of fully digital SG. The expected outcomes include a validated participatory health communication model and an innovative hybrid SG prototype.
