This chapter continues the discussion on causal connectives and extends it to a cross-linguistic analysis, comparing French with English, German and Spanish connectives. It emerges from this chapter that connectives are not fully equivalent across languages. The presence of causal connectives to introduce a fallacious argument in the straw man does not universally affect its acceptability. Whereas some connectives have very strong effects and lead to significantly lower acceptability rates when used (e.g., puisque or da, closest to English since), other connectives (e.g., ya que, closest to English since, or as) do not play a role at all.
