Water is an integral part of many sectors and its misuse has created adverse effects such as contamination and water scarcity. To combat this problem, contactless solutions are required of which green chemistry appears to be a good target. Introducing its tenets in practice will allow industrialists to implement sustainable practices in terms of water usage and have minimal negative effects on the environment. An important aspect of these strategies is the substitution of hazardous security parameters of industrial processes with biodegradable polymeric containers to minimize pollution. New generation water reclamation systems permit industries to recycle processed water which in turn reduces the pressure on raw materials. Also, green chemistry offers several processes that require no solvent and energy-conserving ones that cut down on the number of necessary resources and emissions released into the environment. In addition, some new approaches have also been found to the problem of wastewater disposal and treatment: bio-based solvent, membrane filtration, catalysis, and electrochemical methods are powerful tools for the elimination of unwanted substances and for the recovery of useful substances. Thus, the integration of green chemistry in the industrial sphere is also the implementation of sustainable practices that are not only in compliance with international environmental strategies but also reduce the water footprint and pollution.
