Many of the traditions expounded upon throughout the manuscript will be familiar to anyone acquainted with the Bible. These narratives include the creation of the heavens and earth, humanity’s origin in Paradise and Original Sin, the jealousy of Cain towards Abel, and the trials of Christ and his Apostles. Several ideas will also be unique to many outside of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church from the nature of Christ, to the time of creation, and the observance of the Two Sabbaths on Saturday (to honor the Old Testament) and on Sunday (to honor the New Testament). The most distinct aspect of this manuscript however is its unique focus upon the singular worship of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – alone, while critiquing humanity’s calling upon angels, martyrs and saints. It’s the unique Trinitarian focus found within this homily which allows us to connect the treatise’s theological linage back to the Monastic Order of Daqiqa Estifanos. This work represents a uniquely localized theology from the Daqiqa Estifanos, a monastic order established well over five centuries ago, a tradition reaching out to us, and continuing to inspire the Estifanites’ acts of faith today.
