How Far Can We Go? What Is the Potential of CCE? Are We Ready for a Wider Adoption in Clinical Practice?
摘要
Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) has emerged as a promising noninvasive diagnostic tool in gastrointestinal imaging since its introduction in 2006. Despite significant technological advancements and increasing applications, its full potential remains under exploration. Patient experience and satisfaction, accuracy, and procedural completeness are highlighted as critical factors for widespread adoption. This chapter examines the current capabilities of CCE and its prospective role in the diagnosis of colorectal pathology, particularly amid rising demands on endoscopic services, as evidence suggests that CCE can serve as a viable alternative to colonoscopy. Innovations in artificial intelligence, at-home diagnostic protocols, and sustainable service designs further enhance its appeal. However, challenges such as preparation quality, clinician acceptance, and limited therapeutic capabilities persist. With continuous refinement and integration into healthcare systems, CCE is poised to redefine colorectal diagnostics, enabling scalable, patient-centered, and eco-friendly approaches to colorectal pathology management.
