History of Colon Capsule Endoscopy
摘要
Today, video capsule endoscopy is a vital diagnostic tool for visualizing the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the small intestine. When the miniaturized “endoscopy to go” in form of a capsule was introduced to the market, there was widespread anticipation of capturing video images of the entire GI tract. However, numerous lessons had to be learned – primarily due to anatomical and physiological complexities of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as technical challenges faced during the capsule’s journey through the bowel. This chapter delves into the development of the colon capsule.
