Guidelines for Conceptualization and Design of Human - Centered Empathetic Intelligent Machines in Production Systems Within the Industry 5.0 Paradigm

In recent years, the uncontrolled proliferation of new technologies has brought numerous benefits to both industry and society, improving productivity and the quality of production processes. However, an increasingly common sentiment is that developing innovative technologies, if not properly regulated, could hinder sustainable progress. The emergence of Industry 5.0 seeks to address these issues. The widespread integration of intelligent technologies, such as AI, into production systems has resulted in unforeseen adverse effects, such as declining human skills, social isolation, increasing social inequality, and ethical and privacy concerns. These challenges can be addressed by developing empathetic and collaborative intelligent systems and innovative human-machine interaction modes. These intelligent and empathic collaborative machines must be able to detect the operator's physical, cognitive, and emotional state, predict the operator's intentions, and behave accordingly. This manuscript aims to establish a framework within the Industry 5.0 paradigm to serve as a guideline for conceptualizing and designing intelligent, empathic, collaborative technologies in production systems capable of empowering operators while respecting their innate qualities as thinking, emotional, ethical, and social beings.
