From the perspective of the technology adoption lifecycle theory, this study examines the comprehensive impact of AIGC technology on designers’ cognitive attitudes, design literacy, and dematerialization capabilities. Through a 6-week workshop combining micro-interviews and surveys, the study revealed a significant shift in designers’ cognitive attitudes, evolving from initial skepticism or neutrality to active acceptance and recognition. AIGC technology demonstrated remarkable advantages in improving design efficiency, fostering creative thinking, and expanding design possibilities, significantly enhancing designers’ design literacy. Moreover, designers’ dematerialization capabilities, including adaptability to new technologies, teamwork, and critical thinking, were notably strengthened during the adoption process. The study highlights the pivotal role of education and strategic interventions in facilitating designers’ transition from the “early majority” to the “early adopters.” This research underscores the transformative potential of AIGC technology in advancing designers’ professional development and creative innovation while offering strategic insights for future technology adoption in education and practice.
