This paper reflects on a teacher’s experiences and lessons learned throughout her teaching career in Japan with a focus on key stages of professional growth. Beginning with her role at a language company, the paper explores how she developed foundational teaching skills in conversation (eikaiwa) schools and expanded her expertise through university client classes. Her promotion to Teacher Trainer and Support Staff marked a pivotal transition as she took on responsibilities such as curriculum development and preparatory work to support university educators behind the scenes in a bureaucratic office setting. These experiences ultimately paved the way for her current position teaching at a university where she continues to develop as an educator. The paper highlights the challenges and rewards of teaching in diverse educational contexts in Japan. It offers insights into career progression, various educational contexts, and in-class concerns.
