Human-food interaction (HFI) is a research direction in the field of human-computer interaction (HCI). It focuses on the interaction between humans and food, with the primary design goal of enhancing pleasure in the HFI system. Mixed reality is characterized by the seamless combination of the virtual and the real, enabling real-time interaction. This integration creates a multi-sensory experience that closely mimics real-world environments, thereby enhancing the design objectives of HFI systems and increasing user pleasure. By applying mixed reality technology to the field of human-food interaction, the characteristics of the food itself can be deeply explored, and more attention can be paid to the interactive experience related to eating behavior. This paper analyzed the HFI related theories, extracted the five core elements of the mixed reality human-food interaction system, constructed a design framework and proposes design recommendations. A “Tea Fun” mixed reality application is designed to verify the effectiveness of the framework and design recommendations through empirical research.
