Stakeholders’ feedback on design alternatives is critical for effective decision-making in the built environment. We explored a gamification schema that aims to enhance participation in reviewing design alternatives. The schema integrates form and performance data within a mobile app, leveraging augmented reality (AR) and interactive visualizations to facilitate review. A reward system incentivizes engagement, adapting to different design types and offering rewards during interaction phases. We conducted a focus group study to evaluate this approach, assessing the gamification elements, interface design, and user experience. Participants provided insights into usability, motivation, and the effectiveness of AR-enhanced visualizations. Findings reveal that gamification can foster engagement, improve comprehension of design alternatives, and encourage iterative feedback. However, challenges such as balancing competition and collaboration, ensuring reward transparency, and addressing varying levels of technological familiarity emerged. This study contributes to design democratization by demonstrating how gamification and AR can support participatory decision-making. The results inform future development of interactive tools that facilitate meaningful stakeholder involvement, improving the design review process.
