Implementation and Interaction Effects of Robotic Cat Tail

This study, based on the Big Five Personality Traits, presents the design of a soft robotic cat tail capable of dual-segment swinging. The tail is driven by tension wires and servo motors to achieve various postural changes. Participants observed seven different static tail postures and evaluated them across five personality dimensions: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. To analyze the psychological perception of these postures, this study employed a repeated measures ANOVA and further examined the moderating effects of age and gender. The results indicate that higher and upward postures were rated higher in Extraversion and Openness, whereas lower and curled postures received higher Neuroticism scores. Additionally, the younger group (≤29 years old) was more likely to perceive the robotic cat as neurotic compared to the older group. On the other hand, gender did not show a significant effect on posture evaluation, suggesting that the robotic cat tail has broad applicability across different demographics.
