AtletismoRV: Navigating the Complexity of Developing a Virtual Reality Application for Physical Education Teaching in Brazilian Elementary Schools
摘要
Given that elementary school physical education classes in Brazil may be affected by limited access to dedicated facilities, such as athletics stadiums, this study introduces a VR application named AtletismoRV. The application was developed to assist teachers in introductory athletics lessons by offering students immersive experience in a 3D environment created using the UNITY platform. This environment replicates an athletics stadium where realistic characters perform various modalities. The initial concept, its motivation, and literature review were presented as a short paper at the 26th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction. Subsequently, the app was implemented by a team of three researchers and tested with 42 students from two 5th-grade elementary school classes. AtletismoRV received second place in the Educational Applications and Resources Contest during the XIX Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies (LACLO 2024). This paper discusses the challenges faced during development, the technical choices made, and the results of the project.
