In this paper, we propose character interaction design strategy to enhance the educational attributes of DEGs (digital educational games) for preschoolers. By reviewing the relevant literature, we have developed a character interaction design framework and related principles. Using these as criteria, we innovatively designed a coding scheme and analyzed 68 DEGs from the Chinese Apple App Store. The study found that the coding scheme based on character interaction design is feasible; focusing on the interaction between children and characters can guide children to pay more attention to knowledge contexts, stimulate their learning interest, and achieve higher user ratings. Finally, we discussed the significance of character interaction design strategy, which not only provide designers with references for future designs but also offer guidance for parents and teachers in making selections.
