This study explores the effects of interface organization in cross device information display on task performance and user subjective perceptions. A two-factor within-subjects design experiment was conducted, involving an experimental scenario where mobile interface was mirrored onto a computer screen. The independent variables consisted of icon layout and application presentation. Dependent variables included performance of information retrieval tasks, usability, satisfaction, and intention to use. Results indicate significant interaction effects of the two independent variables. In the case of sequential presentation of applications, compared with icon layered layout, icon tiled layout significantly shortens task completion time and enhances user usability, satisfaction, and intention to use. In the case of parallel presentation applications, the task performance and user subjective perception of icon layered layout are better than that of icon tiled layout. This study enriches information display theory and provides practical insights for the design and optimization of cross-device information presentation.
