The Ancient Greeks Meet Virtual Reality: Exploring the Immersive Potential of Virtual Reality for the Mind Palace Technique
摘要
Memory enhancement has long been a focal point of human endeavor, leading to the development of various techniques to improve cognitive recall and retention. The Mind Palace technique, known for its effectiveness in leveraging spatial memory, is particularly valued for its ability to organize and retrieve information through visualization. While Virtual Reality (VR) was hypothesized to enhance this method by providing immersive environments, our findings indicate that participants consistently preferred and performed better using the traditional, mentally applied Mind Palace. A combination of quantitative and qualitative results not only reveals the sensory complexities of VR as a hindrance but also highlights the essential narrative component of this mnemonic technique.
