This chapter explores the final years of Miguel de Poblete’s government (1663–1667), which was marked by jurisdictional conflicts, particularly with the Augustinian order. Through a critical reading of archival and contemporary sources, a micro-historical analysis of the misconduct of Augustinian friars, particularly Fr. Alonso Quijano, sheds light on the broader power structures that kept the religious elite of the archipelago in a state of constant conflict.
