Active participation is essential for enhancing learning outcomes in lecture-style classes. However, existing Personal Response System (PRS) software to promote active participation is implemented on PCs, requiring teachers to temporarily pause the instruction to operate the computer. Similarly, students are required to engage in actions beyond listening, such as operating computers. To address these issues, we designed a system with single-function button input that eliminates the need for device operation during the lecture and provides feedback perceivable through peripheral vision. We first implemented the buttons in a junior high school English class for over a month and observed behavior. Based on our observations, instructions were designed to reduce the shyness associated with pressing the buttons. Additionally, we developed a feedback mechanism that presented audio with sound effects while preserving the anonymity of students. To verify the effectiveness of this system, we conducted a control experiment in an English cram school with junior high school students. The results suggested that the button system changed the communication style and adjusted the speed of class progress. Moreover, voice feedback improved the evaluation of empathy and a sense of unity.
