Chief Residency—The Pros and Cons
摘要
The decision about whether to apply for an internal medicine chief year is filled with questions. People often struggle to define the role of a chief resident, explain the potential career benefits, and justify why someone would take a significant pay cut to pursue this. This chapter aims to highlight some perspectives on the pros and cons of pursuing a chief year. Of note, each program has its own timeline and process for applying to be a chief. The authors encourage you to familiarize yourself with this process as soon as possible if you are considering applying for this position. In addition, some programs offer opportunities for both PGY-3 and PGY-4 chiefs. This chapter will focus on becoming a PGY-4 chief.
