Preparation, Characterization, and Antibacterial Activity of Biodegradable Bacterial Cellulose Nanocomposites
摘要
Nowadays, the usage of bacterial cellulose in food, paper, electronics, and biomedical industries has gained widespread attention. The main advantage of bacterial cellulose is its biocompatibility and biodegradability. Unlike the plant cellulose, the bacterial cellulose is devoid of lignin and hemicellulose, and hence, it is considered as the purest form of cellulose. Bacterial cellulose has nanofibrillar structures with large surface areas and is non-toxic in nature. Mainly, bacterial cellulose-based nano-biocomposites use in the biomedical industry, including wound dressing, which is discussed in this chapter. The moldability, high water-holding capacity, versatility, high mechanical strength and low-cost are the main reason for its usage in different products. This chapter discusses the type of microorganisms producing bacterial cellulose, the application of bacterial cellulose, preparation of bacterial cellulose, preparation of bacterial cellulose nanocomposite, studies on antibacterial activities of bacterial cellulose nanocomposites and the applications of bacterial cellulose nanocomposites in detail.
