Venous thromboembolism occurs when a clot forms in the venous system, leading to deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism if the clot breaks away and migrates to the lungs. Although significant progress has been made in understanding arterial thromboembolism, venous thromboembolism requires further exploration. Dietary factors are known to influence the development of both types of thromboembolism. Coffee, one of the most widely consumed beverages globally, has been associated with several health benefits, including potential cardiovascular advantages. However, the connection between coffee consumption and venous thromboembolism has not been thoroughly investigated. Evidence suggests a possible link between coffee consumption and a reduced risk of venous thromboembolism, but more research is needed to establish a causal relationship. This comprehensive review aims to examine the current understanding of the relationship between coffee consumption and venous thromboembolism and discuss key studies that could inform prevention and management strategies for venous thromboembolism.
