The treatment of allergic rhinitis consists of 3 main approaches: allergen avoidance (environmental controls), pharmacotherapy, and allergen-specific immunotherapy. Patient age, frequency and intensity of allergic symptoms, comorbidities, and previous treatment strategies are among the variables that need to be incorporated into shared decision-making when formulating a treatment plan. This chapter will concentrate on these three approaches, recognizing that there are additional options that can be considered.
