Sublingual Immunotherapy: Tablets
摘要
Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is available in two forms—either in a liquid preparation which contains allergen extract or in tablet form which dissolves when placed sublingually. Currently, there are four sublingual tablet products approved in the United States providing immunotherapy to grasses, ragweed, and house dust mites in patients with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. In Europe, the house dust mite sublingual tablet also has approval for the treatment of allergic asthma induced by house dust mites. SLIT tablets have proven to be safe and effective and can be done at home after the first dose and therefore are a good alternative to subcutaneous immunotherapy which involves frequent clinic visits and injections. This section will further outline the SLIT tablet products available and the evidence supporting this specific type of immunotherapy.
