At present time the plastic pollution has become the matter of concern due to the omnipresence of plastic products in our surroundings and environment. The growing utilization of microplastics (MPs) and plastics results in the environmental pollution. Nowadays, most of the products used in regular routine like paints, nail polish, cosmetics, household cleaners contain microplastics. These are basically the tiny plastic particles of size below length of 5mm. Though these products have made people's daily lives considerably simpler but their inadequate handling has led to an enormous quantity of plastic debris which results in various environmental hazards such as negative effect on humans and aquatic life. The increasing consequences of plastic and microplastic contamination on the environment have led to the investigation of novel bioremediation techniques which helps to detoxify the polluted sites with the help of bacteria, enzymes and other microorganisms. Enzymatic bioremediation, nanoparticle-based bioremediation are common methods which are helpful in plastic degradation and to eliminate the plastic waste. This article delves into the recent developments for eliminating wastes composed of plastic and microplastics as well as the different working mechanism of various remediation which involves adsorption, degradation and transportation process.
