Latent Fingerprint Development by Using Cow Dung Ash on Porous and Non-Porous Surfaces

A latent fingerprint is an essential component of forensic investigation, as they can provide valuable evidence to identify individuals. Various types of powder dusting methods have been used for identifying concealed fingerprints on different kinds of surfaces. In this study found that cow dung ash is used as a simple, user-friendly, eco-friendly, and low-cost fingerprint development powder to visible latent fingerprints on dark-coloured porous and non-porous surfaces such as plastic, steel, metal, wood, glass, marble, cardboard, etc. To prepare cow dung ash powder, the dried cow dung was ground into small particles for used Dry Ashing process to convert cow dung into cow dung ash powder. The fine particles of cow dung ash adhere to natural residues in the fingerprints, which produce clearly visible patterns and ridges on the latent fingerprint. The result of this study shows that cow dung ash is used as an effective and good-quality fingerprint powder that can be used in crime scene investigations in the future.
