AI for Vocational Education and Training - Overview of Developments, Foci and Gaps Within 34 German Funding Projects
摘要
This paper provides an overview of the learning technologies developed within the context of the German funding programme “INVITE” in the field of vocational education and training (VET). INVITE, with a budget of 88 million euros over four years, supports 34 multi-stakeholder projects aimed at enhancing digital learning platforms for VET. Based on self-descriptions and websites from these projects, we categorize the technologies developed along four key phases of the learning process. The results highlight the predominance of applications targeting and supporting individual learning processes, such as recommender systems to find matching learning resources, adaptive learning pathways, and virtual learning companions, which aim to tailor educational experiences to individual needs. Additionally, the paper identifies gaps in the current project work, including the need for greater attention to accessibility to diverse learner groups, a focus on educators and facilitating cooperative learning forms. By sharing these insights we seek to contribute to the EU-wide discourse on AI in and for VET. We particularly encourage international collaboration with the objective of advancing the development of knowledge representations for a range of VET domains and standardised certifications. This will enhance the effectiveness and reach of AI-driven VET applications across Europe.
