For the purposes of this chapter, we will focus on the subarctic and boreal regions, such as the high latitudes of the planet south of the Arctic (66° 33′ 46′′ N) and Antarctic (66° 33′ 46′′ S) circles, up to latitude 50°. This wide latitudinal strip shows an uneven spatial distribution between hemispheres since, in the southern hemisphere it corresponds almost exclusively to oceanic waters, with the exception of the southern tip of Patagonia and the Subantarctic islands (the Antarctic Peninsula has been dealt with in the previous chapter and included in the polar zones).

摘要
