The tribal people and their community are an integral part of India's social fabric. A socially, ethnically and politically cohesive group of people are known as tribal people. According to the 2011 census, Jharkhand state constitutes Scheduled TribesScheduled tribes population (ST) 26.21% of the total population. In Jharkhand state a total of 32 scheduled tribesScheduled tribes, including 24 major tribes and 8 primitive tribes found. LivelihoodLivelihood is the ability of an individual to obtain the basic necessities in life which are food, water, shelter, clothing, income and employability for sustaining life. Tribal people are greatly associated with Jal, Jangal and Jameen. Geographically tribal peoples of Jharkhand are unique. Tribal has been living in the forest since ancient times and forest is the backbone of the tribal economy and their livelihoodLivelihood. This paper aims to investigate the livelihoodLivelihood patterns among tribal womenTribal women, to identify and prioritize the livelihoodLivelihood issues of tribal womenTribal women, and to examine the socio-economicSocio-economic status of tribal women in the study area. The research draws upon a combination of primary and secondary data sources. A majority of tribal womenTribal women work very hard for livelihoodLivelihood opportunities and to sustain their families. The results of the study show that 74% of the tribal womenTribal women are engaged in primary economic activities such as agricultureAgriculture, livestock farming, hunting and food gathering from the forest. Their study reveals that alcoholism, wild animals menace, inadequate transport facilities, inadequate educational facilities, inadequate medical facilities, social exclusion and discrimination, etc. are major livelihoodLivelihood issues of tribal womenTribal women. Social participation of the tribal womenTribal women of the Latehar district is very high. The researcher observed that Pradhan Mantri Jana Jatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM), NABARD scheme, NGO, Self-Help Groups, Samarthan, CART, SAMRTH play an important role in better livelihoodLivelihood opportunities in the study area.
