Land-use and Land-cover (LULC) transformation plays a significant role in the study of global change. Growing populations, rising socioeconomic inequalities, urbanization, industrialization, and other factors significantly contribute to an unplanned and unregulated LULC modification in lower-middle-income countries like India. Krishnagar City of West Bengal, India, has unplanned urban growth, highlighting the need for sustainable urban planning to ensure its socially and environmentally inclusive growth. In this scenario, the current research aimed to assess the LULC transformation of Krishnagar City by incorporating geospatial techniques. We used the multi-temporal satellite images to address the objective and prepared the LULC maps from 1994 to 2024 for four decades. The transformation of LULC maps reflects an exciting scenario. The built-up area is increasing, and all the other LULC classes are decreasing. Although the open land cover is declining, surprisingly, it slightly increased after 2004 and decreased after 2014. Justifiably, the present study demonstrates some necessary plans for the inclusive and sustainable growth of Krishnagar City. Thus, our analysis is essential for planners and the government to design and execute appropriate policies.
