This study presents the development and evaluation of an augmented reality (AR) book aimed at promoting the local wisdom of Tai Lue foods in gastronomy tourism. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global tourism industry seeks innovative strategies for recovery, with a focus on sustainable, inclusive, and culturally rich tourism experiences. The Tai Lue, known for their unique culinary heritage, offer a gastronomic experience that is largely untapped in mainstream tourism. Our project leverages AR technology to provide an immersive experience of Tai Lue cuisine, aiming to foster a deeper appreciation of local cultures and cuisines in a post-pandemic world. Employing a research and development (R&D) methodology, this study follows a pre-post test design to assess the impact of the AR book on participants’ knowledge of Tai Lue cuisine. The findings indicate a significant increase in knowledge among participants, demonstrating the effectiveness of AR technology as an educational tool in cultural preservation and gastronomy tourism. This research contributes to the broader efforts to revitalize tourism and underscores the potential of technology in bridging cultural gaps and enhancing tourist experiences.
