Analysis on the Technology and Structure of Vernacular Architecture. The Case of Gjirokastra Through Site Works and BIM
摘要
Gjirokastra is a small town in the south of Albania, but with great historical and cultural heritage values in the regional level and world level. Because of these values, Gjirokastra is part of UNESCO since 2005. The current state and health monitoring of historical buildings, thanks to which Gjirokastra is now part of the UNESCO list, has led to the development of this study, which aims to investigate on-site and then analyze the state of the structure, through theoretical interpretations based on authentic construction technologies. This study takes its origin in the restoration camps held in the Restoration of Cultural Heritage framework by Polis University, supported by the Ministry of Culture and local authorities. In the first phase, the restoration camps were focused on surveying and documenting the cultural heritage of Gjirokastra, which was carried out with field surveys and the review of archival documents. The second phase included surveys and questionnaires with local professionals on the vernacular architecture, popular technologies used for the realization of these buildings and most importantly the pathological analysis, degradation and problems related to the stability of the buildings. Based on this methodology, is intended to build a spatial scenario through modeling in the form of a historical timeline. The expectations are in the formulation of some efficient and useful intervention proposals for the recovery and monitoring of historical objects, but without affecting the aesthetics of vernacular architecture. The study will be handled through documentation, digitization, and analysis of some case studies selected by their architectural and historical values. The impact of this study will be mainly academic, but it will also be a tangible contribution to the community or experts in the field of vernacular architecture in Gjirokaster. The theoretical and technical analysis will bring out some recommendations and findings which will contribute to the process of restoration and conservation of architectural assets or cultural heritage.
