This study focuses on the transformation pathway of cultural elements in virtual reality (VR) interaction technology, using the culture of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal as a specific case for in-depth exploration. The study selects the Caoyun Dock on the Beijing section of the Grand Canal during the Qing Dynasty as the core object and restores its historical and cultural characteristics through VR technology, aiming to explore the effective transformation of cultural elements in VR design. The study first elaborates on the crucial role of VR technology in the presentation of digitized historical scenes and then proposes implementation strategies and pathways for applying VR to digital displays. By constructing an immersive VR experience, meticulously restoring architectural, social, and natural environments, and incorporating storytelling design and diverse interaction methods such as role-playing, artifact interaction, and participation in cultural performances, the study significantly enhances users’ cultural experience and sense of identity. This research not only provides a theoretical pathway for the digital inheritance of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal culture but also contributes new ideas to the innovative conservation and promotion of global linear cultural heritage.
