The effectiveness of visual information in toy packaging significantly impacts children’s understanding of product functionality, influencing purchasing decisions and user experience. This study evaluates the packaging information processing level of Magic Building Block toys using the Human Information Processing (HIP) model, considering children’s cognitive characteristics, and proposes an improved design. By integrating Piaget’s cognitive development theory, we derive a theoretical framework linking information processing to packaging experience. Through interviews and grounded theory, we identified 11 design indicators across three dimensions: information design, layout, and experience. These indicators guided the development of a questionnaire and informed the design strategies. The improved design was validated through controlled experiments using cognitive performance theory. Key findings indicate that visual content should be simple, colorful, and abstract. Information layout should be organized logically, and the packaging should offer engaging experiences with intuitive interactions and clear feedback. This research enhances the accuracy of information transmission, optimizes children’s cognitive experience, and boosts market competitiveness.
