Identification of Cross-Product Experience Factors
摘要
To ensure product success, user expectations need to be measured to avoid false assumptions. It has been shown that different user experience (UX) factors can be relevant depending on the use case. These UX factors, which can be measured with methods such as the User Experience Questionnaire Plus (UEQ+), can influence the user behavior and vice versa. We consider the totality of factors that can influence the usage behavior as holistic UX factors. UX factors that are relevant for specific product categories have already been identified. However, to our knowledge, no cross-product category analysis has been performed to date. To support researchers and practitioners in this research gap, the article examines a psychology method in cross-product category research to confirm existing and identify new holistic UX factors: the Repertory Grid Technique. In 22 interviews, the three established products Netflix, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams were compared on their similarities and differences. Based on the comparisons, 63 holistic UX factors were identified. It was found that in addition to the already known relevant factors for each product category (e.g., “Complexity” or “Aesthetics”), also new overarching factors could be identified (e.g., “Mental Demand” or “Versatility”). The results show that the Repertory Grid Technique is suitable for a cross-product category analysis. It was also found that there are holistic UX factors that cannot yet be measured using standard methods like the UEQ+. In this way, the article supports researchers and practitioners in determining research gaps and forming a more holistic picture of UX.
